This is the home page of my Language Services. Its purpose is to introduce my services and some related thoughts. This is a brief description, please, see the other pages for details. Professionally, I am a language consultant and an English teacher (facilitator, tutor, lecturer, expert, you name it) and started my own business on 1 August 2007. I did this to create something new and to offer my services to a larger clientele than before. There is no master plan behind this; this is something I do out of pleasure.
I offer two kinds of services: language consulting (language checking, editing, proof-reading and translation working with English and Finnish) and English lessons. I have checked scientific articles and reports (e.g. physics, forestry, sociology, computer science, and education), web pages, literary texts, and advertisements. I have also translated short texts (e.g. advertisements, web pages, brochures, manuals, service descriptions, private stories and texts, and my own texts, of course) into/from Finnish and English. These have been related to music, tourism, IT, and education, for example. However, I do not offer official translations (e.g. official contracts and certificates).
I am a qualified English (EFL/ESL) and Swedish teacher in Finland. As a part of my Language Services, I plan and execute English lessons, courses, and even distance learning packages for adult students from near-beginners to experts (face-to-face only in Joensuu). My related work experience includes teaching at comprehensive schools, upper secondary schools, a vocational school, a university of applied sciences, and at university level. I held a lectureship in English until the end of December 2007 and then taught some of my courses as a full-time instructor in 2008 (see Curriculum Vitae) in addition to other courses through North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, for example. These include Business English courses at local companies. In the past, I have given group and private tutoring in English for customer service professionals, students preparing for the matriculation examination or studies at a higher level, and a company director in conversation and presentation skills. My most recent clients include local companies as well as private students.
